RE: Frankfurt, Germany what to see?

The Palmengarten is a nice place to go if you have any interest in botany. There are still some vestiges of the medieval era scattered around the city but nothing as impressive as all that - but if you take a short trip to Heidelburg or drive down the Rhinestrasse there are plenty of things to see and do - there's a great Kriskringlemart and the schloss in Heidelburg, and many castles down the Rhine. There's also a rebuilt Roman fortification in the Taunus Mts just outside of Frankfurt that is quite interesting. Idar-Oberstein is a good place to buy semi-precious gemstones and jewelry if you're going before Yule!

RE: Triangle T Guest Ranch, Dragoon, Arizona

Did you get a contract or was it just a verbal agreement? Think that you should have left and not been taken like that, tho! And how did they know how much you got paid in tips????

RE: What is the worst Road you drove on?

DH and I drove Tioga Pass leaving Yosemite one year, pulling a small trailer with my old jeep CJ7 - there were times I forgot to breath for a good chunk of minutes! Can't imagine anyone going that way with a real rv. We met a group of Marines jogging up the road but they were on their own feet and not wheels and so were comparatively safe. Very scary with those curves and corners!

RE: Wondering about next year

Got to admit that with major surgery looming for me and the subsequent inability to work for some months the outlook doesn't lend itself to sunny optimism...and DH's last job ended a month ago and he doesn't have another one lined up yet...so I worry more about keeping the bills paid than I do about camping simply because I wouldn't have much enjoyment in it while stressing over the lack of funds! However, I'm sure that things will get better and that we will be on the road shortly - life is uncertain...go camping!

RE: Ford and GM top execs refuse salary cut!

I recall reading an article that called for retraining, temp medical/dental help, and unemployment benefits for the workers who would lose their jobs when the auto makers went down rather than bailing out the inefficient and unchanging Big 3 - and that makes more sense than any bailout Bernake ever came up with. But that won't happen, either.

RE: Living in Cold Winter Months

I'm following this with great interest as we may be going to a small town near the Neb. border for my DH's job and I KNOW it gets nasty (cold, snowy) there! What will you do if the park loses electricity? Can the furnace run off the battery? I worry about freezing!

RE: Helping out DD's BF? Good or bad idea? LONG

Money is always tight and if you're fortunate enough to be able to help someone out that's a blessing for both of you. Yes, write off the loans - that way when he repays you it will be a pleasant surprise rather than getting bitter waiting for it if he can't or won't. A six year age difference isn't that much - I'm seven years older than my DH and know many people who are either older or younger than their spouses. Don't worry about being taken! Your daughter will receive a powerful lesson about believing in people and giving from your actions, and if she's as serious about this guy as you think she will be grateful to you for your graciousness and acceptance of him. I admire someone who can give like that.

RE: Who be watching Ghost Hunters live?

I'm having d.t.s because I can't see it - haven't had cable for past 3+ months and I just KNOW I'm missing some good stuff! Hoping they will put the past episodes on dvd so DH can buy them for me for Yule.

RE: RN job for RVers?

Might try travel nursing and just work in surgery centers or something like that. My condolences on your loss - I know that it is a heavy one.

RE: Carriage fifth wheel

We traded up from a Class A to a Carriage Cameo LXI 35CK and never regretted it. Very trouble-free and spacious. Only thing I'd change is that I'd get a rear kitchen for the extra and useful counterspace. Other than that, we like ours a great deal and we fulltime in it. Has held up very well.

RE: Travel nursing agencies

There are a lot of travel nurses and techs on here normally so I'm surprised that your questions are going begging. These are some companies my DH works for - Teamstaff, Cross Country, TRS (The Right Solutions), TVL (Natl Healthcare), Nursefinders, and American Travel. He is with TRS right now and we've not had any problems with them at all. As for how you're treated at work - varies with assignment. He had one in TX that loved him as long as they needed him, and then when they didn't treated him badly. Most of them treat you well and people are people all over so that varies as well! Work is steady. Negatives are...hmm...moving every 3 months might be considered one for some people, learning a new facilities way of doing things can be a pain. Positives are moving often enough not to get bored with where you are and it's amenities, meeting some very interesting people and doing some things you might not have otherwise been doing in the hospitals, making really good money! If you wish PM me and I will give you contacts at each agency and get you started.

RE: 5th wheel vs class A

Making the decision to fulltime is easy compared to all the rest of it! I feel your pain...but as so many have posted before me a lot depends on your style of travel and your health. Once you decide if you're going to move and then sit in one place long enough to explore it or just move every day or every other day then that will tell you which to purchase. We like our fiver because we move once every 3 or 4 months and DH uses the truck to get back and forth with. When we had a Class A being able to see the drivers seat and steering wheel made me want to move much more frequently! Also the 3-4ft of the cockpit was wasted space which irked me. If you like to cook make sure there is adequate counter space for your appliances - I'm going with a rear kitchen model next time just for that. Most Class A's don't have much in the way of counter space so where will the coffeemaker etc fit? Stuff is hard but you need much less than you think. Don't overburden yourself with towels, linens, etc. Right now I'm staring at twenty-odd washcloths and wondering if my DH has gone nuts. You'll need much less in the clothing and shoe dept as well unless you're working on the road and need to dress up for it. All those knicknacks can be stored in someone's basement or sold or given to GoodWill for a tax writeoff. Prune out the tool box as well - you would be surprised how heavy it is and you won't need countless varieties of screwdrivers etc. Buy some clear plastic containers for your understorage compartments so things are easily accessable. Once you get rid of most of your stuff you will find you don't miss it at all and you'll be able to get rid of more and more as you go along. If you don't use it in a year you don't need it is my mantra.

RE: 2008 Carriage Cameo-please help

Only problem I can see would be the truck not being up to the weight of the rig - makes it rather dangerous. We have an 03 Cameo and have had no real problems with it - but if I had my druthers I'd have gotten a rear kitchen instead - just something to think about if you like to cook and want plenty of counter space. Pulling a fiver is easy - hardly know it's there unless you check your mirrors - no sway when passing or being passed by a big truck. No opinion on hitches as long as it's up to your weight.

RE: Any UFOs or ??? stories?

I think that there's a lot more out there than we are willing to admit to - just my opinion, of course. I've lived in houses where things like that have happened as well - it can be freaky but I've found that most of the time they just want to be acknowledged and will then back off. Lived in a trailer once as a newlywed outside Ft Bragg where you could hear the front door open and close and footsteps go thru the living area to the kitchen and then stop. DH got his gun out the first time we heard it, certain we had an intruder, but no-one there. Happened several times. Found out when we were moving out that a few years back a soldier had come home and committed suicide in the kitchen. Brrr! Funny thing was, the cats would all leave the trailer the afternoon before it would occur, and come back the next morning!

RE: What to do first

I'm sure that if you do a search on this subject you'll find lots of good info since we've all been through it at one time or another -some of us more than once! There are also good books out that would be worhtwhile to read, with many good hints in them. In the meantime, get rid of as much as you can to begin with and take it slow! You don't say if you already have your fulltiming rig or not...and that's a whole nother can o worms!

You might also look into the military as I believe I read that they have upped the age limit again - you might be able to get in and there are worse jobs in the world, believe me!

RE: Wife passed away Wednesday

Just keep talking to her - after all, you know she's listening to every word you say and even if you can't see her you know she's there. And do as the others have said - take care of yourself, eat, and spend as much time as you need to with your family and friends, online and off. With all that help you will make it through this terrible time. Our prayers and thoughts are with you!
